Maine Coast in June

Seagulls skim over wet sand

A father plays paddle ball with his daughter
Thwack thwack

We had a similar set
That I played with my dad

A man in candy striped board shorts
Strides with purpose to the water’s edge

Dad would take a big breath and run full out

Our children scream and run
As the 48-degree water wraps around their ankles

Racing the waves was one of my favorite games

Four boys debate the finer points of sand castle building

I would spend hours digging in the sand

A tattooed women contorts herself into a yoga pose

As the waves and my childhood memories
Slide back into the sea
