0600 On A Summer Morning

Our plans have been scuttled
But our lives are intact

The house is habitable
Our belongs are not piled in the front yard
Water logged and growing mold

I’ve done a lot of porch sitting this summer

My brain is cluttered with to-dos
Questions and vague adventures

My coffee cup is empty

The dog paces
Waiting for the breakfast hour

I think of my friend
Long dead
How my oldest son loves purple
Like he did

I should call my mother
I should start on that list
I should go for a bike ride

I should just be
