Sipping Tea on the Porch in Early September

The air is thick with humidity

A few leaves have begun to change

An unseen bird
Repeatedly calls out
As it recedes into the forest

I’m not ready for the cold of winter

Though I would accept
The coolness of fall

The bird’s call reechoes
Through my thoughts

A memory
I can’t quite place
