Former roommates
And others from my past
Gather in a large building
That is continually changing
Listening to the proclamations of
Edward Abbey
Who found Doug Peacock in the Yellowstone backcountry
Turning him into George Hayduke
Searching for the sprit bear of the southwest
I am in the northeast
Two generations removed
Abbey told me to wait until he was dead
To find my way
Not to his grave
Hidden in the desert
But to costly grace
Following the Buddhist monk
And my spirit animal
On a vision quest
Of understanding
